Joseph Edelman is the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Perceptive Advisors LLC, a New York City-based hedge fund that specializes in biotechnology stocks, which he founded in 1999 with the goal of supporting progress in the life sciences industry by identifying opportunities and directing financial resources toward the most promising technologies in modern healthcare.

Joe earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, graduating magna cum laude from the University of California, San Diego. He initially pursued a graduate-level degree in Psychopharmacology but pivoted to earn a Master of Business Administration at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University. Combining his training in psychology with his experience in investing and portfolio management, Joe has built an investment team of MDs and PhDs who are dedicated to identifying trends, technologies and underappreciated assets in the life sciences industry to drive returns for investors and help improve lives through science.

Beyond his professional success, Joe is deeply committed to causes to improve the lives of people and communities. He serves on the Board of Trustees at Brown University and the Board of Directors at the New York Genome Center and Athira Pharma.
